After much discussion and testing we are hoping to move state-wide communications to Slack and away from Hangouts.  A single Slack Team will allow us to have channels for each area, a general channel, private group chats, and individual chats (direct messages).  Owners and Admins do not have access to group chats unless invited, nor to direct messages between individuals.  Slack also allows the team to be moderated and it does not have a limit of 100 people.

The goal is to bring Montana together as a team for communication.  It will not replace our communities but it will allow Montana to communicate more effectively as a team for local, State-wide, and National operations.

Slack has proven very effective in Idaho and other areas.

Please either post your email so we can add you or contact  Robert Lafley, Jackson Cyr, Devon W, John Ewan, Frank Dougher, Jeremy Neff,  or myself with your email address so we can add you.

  1. It's also very easy to sign in to multiple Slack teams from within the Slack apps, Slack has much finer granularity with regard to notification preferences, and there are 3rd party services that can create inter-team Slack channels. Slack has a number of service integrations as well, allowing you to setup automations through IFTTT, Zapier, and many other services. Idaho recently added channels for posting Portal Live notifications and Damage Reports for specific areas through IFTTT recipes.

Slack has been a very good move for us, hope Montana has the same experience!
